The weekend proved to be very difficult for the Red Hawks as they were shut out from the win column all weekend. They played tough, but some key injuries hampered the team's progress. Senior Janine Emmer went down with a knee injury. Other players who were hurt included hitter junior Kayla O'Brien-Kremer and setter junior Chrissy Schneider.
Junior Jena Kramer says about the losses, "we played well, but several people got hurt and we couldn't do what we wanted to."
Friday night the team played UW-LaCrosse, who came into the tournament ranked #15 nationally, and fell in three games. Offense was a problem for Ripon all night long as they lost by scores of 30-19, 30-18, and 30-17.
Life didn't get much easier for the Red Hawks Saturday when they played #22 UW-Oshkosh. The team was able to beat the Titans in the first game by a score of 30-28. In the end, however, UWO proved too much as they won the next three games with scores of 30-17, 30-22, and 30-22 respectively.
They wrapped up the tournament with a match against St. Norbert, whom the team had beaten in three games earlier this year. This match proved to be a different story as the Green Knights beat the Red Hawks in three games, 30-21, 30-10 and 30-25.
With the conference tournament coming up the Red Hawks hope to bounce back and get things going. "Hopefully we can get everyone back and healthy before the tournament. We should have a good chance of winning if we get people back and our team gets back to full strength," says Kramer.
The Red Hawks finished 20-13 overall on the year with an 8-1 conference record and winning the regular season conference. The Red Hawks look to win the conference tournament at Illinois College this coming weekend and advance to the NCAA tournament.
