The Network, Ripon's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) organization, has been working hard to get the campus talking about GLBT issues.

Dec. 1 they hope to jump start campus debate when they host John Corvino, professor of applied ethics at Wayne State and an avid speaker on GLBT issues, who will discuss homosexuality and morality.

President of the Network junior Peter Jensen feels Corvino, "will bring a new level of logical academic insight to the topic. His presentation will approach the topic of homosexuality from a variety of angles including both political and religious."

Jensen and his fellow Network members hope everyone in attendance will be able to take something away regarding their actions and personal beliefs about homosexuality.

"He's not a propagandist or political hack-he's a trained philosopher who takes an insightful, carefully considered look at the issues surrounding homosexuality," says Joe Fontaine, senior and member of College Democrats, an organization endorsing the event.

Over the past decade, Corvino has spoken to audiences through all different mediums, from television to radio to books to live audiences.

"I think Dr. Corvino will generate a good deal of interest among students. The topic is timely, and it's a prominent, important issue," says Fontaine. "It's an issue which has a lot of direct relevance for the campus."

Corvino will speak in the East Hall Little Theater at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 is also World AIDS Day.
