With little business on the agenda in the past two weeks, the approval of two one-funds were the only new business before senators at the Nov. 9 and Nov. 16 senate sessions.

At the Nov. 9 meeting, senators voted unanimously in favor of passing a one-fund request amounting to $909 to fund Yule Ball, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 9 beginning at 8:30 p.m. The request, made by the Yule Ball Committee, will be used to purchase food, a disc jockey service, publicity for the event and decorations.

The following week a $298 request by new club Chefs Anonymous passed in a 19 to zero vote, with one abstention. The money will be used for two purposes. First, $180 will finance the remaining four weeks of cooking sessions and finish out the club's first semester as an officially recognized student organization.

The remainder of the $298 sum was used to finance last weekend's Thanksgiving Cooking Workshop and Feast, which taught students to make staple Thanksgiving dishes that included turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and sweet potato pie. Afterwards the participants were able to enjoy their hard work by eating in the President's Dining Room.

During open forum at the Nov. 16 session, senators began the semester's first round of discussion regarding the possibility of getting student organizations on a computer leasing program.

In addition to identifying organizations that could use new computer systems in the near future, senators considered leasing options for new equipment, and a committee was formed to look further into available options and begin to contact student organizations to identify their computing needs.

At the beginning of the Nov. 16 meeting Treasurer sophomore Matt Bush reported the one-fund to be $37,924.98. This sum does not reflect the one-fund for $298 approved during the same session.

This week's session has been cancelled due to the Thanksgiving recess.

Student Senate reconvenes Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Senate Chambers, located on second floor in Bartlett Hall. Student Senate sessions are open to the entire student body.
