Stand-out performances led the women's and men's swimming teams to second place finishes at UW-Whitewater Nov. 12.
Senior Emmy Giovanni had two second place performances in the 200 and 500 meter fly and senior Ksenia Borisova and first-year Becca LaClair both had second place finishes. The women also took second in the 200 meter medley and free relays.
The men were led by senior Jonny Gausewitz who won two events. The men also took third in the 200 medley relay.
Both teams finished behind the UW-Whitewater team, coming before Knox and Marquette.
Senior Michele Bergman has been very pleased with the team's success of late, saying, "The only schools to beat us so far have been the big UW public schools."
She adds that the team is only going to improve.
"The girls are very close to breaking records in some relay events. That's pretty amazing this early in the season."
She attributed some of the team's success to the fact that they have a big team this year.
"It helps to have the numbers to work with; we have people in every event." Senior Brian Macak notes another factor for their success; "We love having fans there, and it pumps us up to hear them in the stands. It means so much when we look up and see them there."
The swimmers compete next at Lawrence's Gene Davis Invitational Dec. 2 and 3.
