Student Senate Rewind: Senate passes three one funds, approves group

At the March 19 meeting five one-funds were presented.
The first, one for the equestrian club, was met with resistance from the senators. It was discussed to amend the one-fund to ask for fewer transportation funds, but the senators decided to deny the entire one-fund.
The FUERZA one-fund was asking for $700 for their annual Cinco de Mayo event. The motion passed and the organizaton will be hosting the event at the end of April.
The senior class board asked for funds from senate for senior week. They asked to take seniors to a Timber Rattlers game and to bring Comedy Sportz for one final performance. One-fund passed.
EGOR asked for funds to bring a speaker to campus for Earth Day. Senators denied the one-fund and asked the organization to try raising funds themselves.
The rugby club asked for funds to help pay for registration fees for the players to keep the costs of playing down for the students. The one-fund passed.
At the March 26 meeting, SMAC asked senate to approve their new executive board and four one-funds were presented.
SMAC's request for approval of the executive board was passed. It will need to be voted on again at tonight's meeting to be passed.
FUERZA asked senate for funds to bring photographs depicting the struggle immigrants face while attempting to cross the US-Mexico border. Fiscal allotment for fliers was cut, but the one-fund passed and the event will take place Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
The Ripon College Orientation Committee asked for funds to bring Comedy Sportz to campus in the fall to entertain all students for their annual production the night before classes begin. The one-fund passed.
SMAC's homecoming committee came to senate to request funds for the fall to have a fireworks show the Thursday night before the homecoming game. The one-fund passed.
EGOR presented a one-fund for the same speaker they asked for in the March 19 meeting. They found funds to help decrease the amount requested from senate. The one-fund passed, but senators discussed why there was a large change of heart in senate with the way they voted on the one-fund.
