The Wind Ensemble will perform its spring concert Sunday, April 13 at 3:15 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall. The program will include My Jesus! Oh, What Anguish composed by JS Bach, Trauersinfonie by Richard Wagner, Finale from Symphony No. 1 by Peter Tchaikovsky, Mars from The Planets by Gustav Holst, Songs of Sailor and Sea by Robert Smith, and King Cotton by John Philip Sousa. The performance will also feature the unique instrumentations of the percussion section in Songs of Sailor and Sea as they recreate the sounds of the sea. The section will slide string bass bows across a vibraphone key, a gong, and a cymbal to create eerie sounds as well as use ocean drums, a ship's bell, anchor chains and even rub their fingers across a timpani for whale sound effects. The concert will also provide challenges for the audience as many of the selections feature music they may have never heard before. The perfomance is open to Ripon College as well as the public. Tickets are available by calling 920-748-8791 and are free for all Ripon College students.
