Misty Joslin named the new hall director of Tri-dorms, Johnson and the Apartments

Ripon College welcomes Misty Joslin as the Hall Director for Tri-dorms, Johnson Hall and the Senior Apartments. "Originally I'm from Menominee Mich.," says Joslin, "which is just into the U.P., about two hours north. Prior to this job, I worked at Baker College in Owosso, which is about forty minutes north of Lansing."

Having taken up residence in the apartment located on first floor Johnson, Joslin is settling in quickly. Joslin went to Albion, a small college, during her college experience as well as being an R.A., and is already accustomed to the climate of a smaller school.

"[While] at Baker College I did pretty much the same thing as I am doing here, but it's a little different in that my collateral assignment was running intramurals so I did a lot of that aspect and Baker [College] has a really small residence hall population. We had nearly three thousand students, but it was [mostly] commuters, so we had about five hundred residents of which I ran two buildings, all upper class students," says Joslin.

Joslin came here looking for an opportunity that would be a positive change for her as well as a challenge, and the fact that Ripon is a small, private college reflected the experiences she had as a college student and made Ripon a very appealing place to work and live.

"Once my apartment is finished and unpacked, my apartment door will be open whenever I'm there," said Joslin and she encourages her new residents and anyone interested in sitting down and chatting to come visit.

Her office hours will be 3-5 p.m. every day, divided up between the three halls of the TAJ section. On Mondays and Thursdays she'll be in the Johnson R.A. office, Tuesdays and Fridays she will be in Tri and on Wednesdays she will be in the Senior Apartments.

In addition to these hours, she will be in the Career Development office from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday as well as at 9 a.m. till noon and 2-3 p.m. on Fridays.

If these hours don't work and students need anything, they can leave her an e-mail or a voice mail and she'll return your message.

The residence life staff can see the effect of Joslin's presence right away. "She has adjusted pretty well so far," said sophomore R.A. Abby Haak. "I see her all the time, she's trying to get to know people, and she's very friendly."

Haak isn't the only one to notice the effect of Joslin's presence, either.

"She [Joslin] is extremely friendly and on top of things, she's incredibly useful and likes to build a community and talk to everyone," says Jessica Brungardt, another sophomore R.A. "There's so much to her, and she's so easy to talk to."

Joslin sees that there is a good positive energy on campus and hopes that she can become a part of it.

Students shouldn't be afraid to come see her, and for the semester ahead she hopes that her residents will be comfortable stopping by to see her or to chat, as well as to solve any problems that they may have.
