Won't you be my neighbor?

Wherever you are reading this right now find a window and look out it. What do you see? A busy street, trees with birdies, or ravaging wildfires. Well if you see the first two good for you.but if you see the third why are you still reading this? The reason I ask you to look out the window is because it's beautiful. Sunny, rainy, snowy or 100% crap, it's still beautiful. If you disagree, I respect that and understand.but think you're either A. Crazy or B. Drunk. I'd say choice C. but I'd probably get kicked off the paper for it.

You see, I'm one of those annoying overly optimistic people who think Hallmark card moments in life should be given a moment of time to be appreciated. I'll give that sickening thought a moment to sink in. (Hums Jeopardy theme to self).

It's funny, a few weeks ago my friend and I were in psychology when the topic of overly happy people came up. He said, "Ugh.I hate those people." All I could do was smile.

I know some people aren't particularly fans of always optimistic people. Trust me, I have my bad days too, but what's wrong with spreading a little sunshine?

Batman fights crime, firefighters save kittens, and I want to help people smile. If that was a crime I'm sure the Bat signal would have been up by now because hopefully I've made a few of you laugh already. If not.lighten up I'm trying here.

This world is really unfair sometimes. Some days will suck no matter how positive you are. You know, the days where you wake to find a dead clown in your bed with a ransom note for your dog.those kinds of days.

It's these unfair, good for nothing, terrible days that really inspire me though. Sure I didn't get my homework in and I failed two exams.but I'm not dead so.it's all. okay?.what the..is that.****.zombies!!!

Truthfully though, it's our jobs as people to be there and look out for our fellow human beings. We'll never stop war, violence, or pain.that's just basic unconscious human nature, but maybe if we took a second out of our day to ask someone, "How are you?" we could change their day and make an impact on their life.

If we don't look out for one another, who will? I'll tell you who's not.robots, chimps, and volcanoes, none of them are going to watch your back. So be there for a friend in a time of need or when they're just having a bummer of a day.

I guess the reason I mention this to all of you is a story that's close to my heart. My grandfather was the greatest man I've ever met. He was kind, caring and optimistic. If the sun went out and humanity was over he'd still have a smile on his face.

Eventually though as in the case of all grandfathers, he got old and ill. For the rest of my life I'll remember this one day I went to visit him. He was lying on his hospital bed, looking very frail and weak. My aunt, who was having a rough time, went up to my grandfather and said, "Take care of yourself." He looked back and said with a smile, "Don't worry about me, you take care of yourself."

He loved her so much that he put aside his own troubles. Isn't that what being human is all about, being there for others and being with others? I think so. In the big scheme of things isn't it the little "Hello, how are you?" moments that will truly make a difference in someone's life? Think about it.

So next time you look out the window and it's cold, rainy and the world seems like it's going to hell, just remember how beautiful it really is.
